Logic Pro

PluginPie uses Accessibility to load plug-ins in open or specific insert slots in Logic Pro. You can choose between instant insertion or search-based insertion.

Adding plug-ins

In the top-right corner of the PluginPie Editor, choose + Add Plug-in

Type

Audio Effect For an Audio FX insert slot.
Instrument For the Instrument slot on a software instrument track.
MIDI Effect For a MIDI FX insert slot.
Preset Loads a saved audio or intrument preset chain to selected track.

Insertion Method

Instant Auto Finds the plug-in by exact name and inserts it, choosing Logic's default channel-format variant.
Search Uses Logic's built in search function to find the plug-in, and then automatically highlights it. From there, you can choose a channel-format by clicking the result or using the arrow keys and pressing enter.

Entry fields

Name The name shown in PluginPie. When Search Alias is empty, PluginPie uses this value to find the device in Logic.
Search Alias Optional alternate lookup text. When this field has a value, PluginPie uses it instead of Name to search.
Vendor Optional. Use the vendor shown in Logic to narrow the results when multiple items have the same name.

Using an alias

Leave Search Alias empty for a normal Name lookup. Add an alias only when the plug-in label in Logic differs from the name you want shown in PluginPie.

Insert a plug-in or preset

PluginPie can automatically insert a plug-in into an open insert slot on the selected track.

  1. Select the track where you want to add the plug-in or preset.
  2. Activate a Pie by using its hotkey gesture and select a plug-in or preset.
  3. PluginPie will automatically load your plug-in into an open insert slot if one is available. Selecting a preset will load that channel strip preset to the track.

Insert into a specific insert slot

PluginPie allows you to specify an insert slot by hovering over it.

  1. Make the Mixer or Inspector visible and position the pointer over the exact Audio FX, Instrument, or MIDI FX slot you're targeting.
  2. Activate a Pie using its hotkey gesture and select a plug-in.
  3. PluginPie will add your plug-in to the slot. If a plug-in already exists in the slot, it will replace it.

Type must match the slot

An Audio Effect entry cannot be sent to an Instrument or MIDI FX slot. If the target slot does not match the plug-in Type, PluginPie rejects the insertion.

Troubleshooting Logic Pro

The wrong plug-in is being inserted

Double-check spelling, it needs to be exact. Try specifying a vendor to narrow results.
